Environment & Sustainability
Together for a Better Future
At Blueberry Hill, environmental awareness and sustainability are an integral part of our daily educational approach. We aim to instill in children the importance of treating nature with respect from an early age. Understanding that we are part of a larger ecosystem fosters a sense of responsibility – both now and in the future.
Proud Member of NABU Hamburg
As a kindergarten, we are proud members of the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) Hamburg. NABU is dedicated to protecting habitats and biodiversity – values that play a significant role in our daily activities.
Together with the children, we explore how to actively protect the environment through hands-on experiences such as:
- Building insect hotels
- Observing native bird species
- Planting flowers to attract bees
Through our collaboration with NABU, children gain exciting insights into conservation projects and learn practical ways to contribute to nature preservation.
Eco-Friendly Resource Management
Sustainability starts in everyday life. That’s why we ensure a conscious use of resources at Blueberry Hill:
- Green Energy: We use electricity from a local eco-friendly provider.
- Sustainable Materials: We prioritize environmentally friendly materials wherever possible.
- Waste Reduction & Recycling: Children learn early on how to reduce waste, recycle, and conserve water and energy.
We also encourage children to question consumption habits. Our kindergarten promotes sustainable play materials and often repurposes used objects, sparking creativity and exploration.
Garden Projects with Children
Our 1,000 m² natural garden is a key part of our educational concept, allowing children to connect with nature throughout the seasons.
Through hands-on gardening projects, children learn responsibility in a playful way:
- Planting flowers, vegetables, and fruit trees
- Observing plant growth and understanding the role of water, light, and soil
- Developing an awareness of sustainability and natural cycles
Children also experience the changing seasons and how they affect plants, animals, and humans. They actively engage in environmental efforts, such as:
- Planting trees
- Building birdhouses
- Composting plant waste
Our garden projects are not only educational but also promote teamwork and social skills. Together, children dig, plant, harvest, and marvel at the wonders of nature – all while learning the importance of protecting it.
Our Goal: Building a Consciousness for Sustainability
We want children at Blueberry Hill to develop a natural awareness of the environment. By understanding the importance of respecting and preserving nature, they build lifelong values through real-world experiences, not just theoretical lessons.
Because those who appreciate nature learn to take responsibility for the world.
